L’autore confessa espressamente tra le righe di questo suo libro di non essere affatto un entusiasta di quelle aperture che richiedono di stare continuamente aggiornati sull’evoluzione della teoria fino alla ventesima mossa: e basta informarsi sulle sue partite per constatare che il suo repertorio è effettivamente costituito di aperture valide ora come venti o trent’anni fa. Una di queste è appunto l’Inglese, di cui qui propone un repertorio per il Bianco in grado di spiazzare chi di solito si siede alla scacchiera con l’intento di imporre comunque la propria maggior preparazione teorica. L’impianto generale parte dal suggerimento di 2.g3 invece di 2. Cc3, considerandola giustamente più elastica, meno teorizzata in alcuni sviluppi e adatta per neutralizzare certe linee standard a disposizione del Nero che si basano appunto sulla presenza del Cavallo in c3.
